Douilles Perterson calibre 375 Cheytac

Prior to Peterson Cartridge making .375 CHEYTAC casings there was only one manufacturer making that brass available in the US. They were international. It was generally out of stock. And we are told, it wasn’t very good. In 2015 we were contacted by CheyTac® the company, and asked to develop the tool packs to make .375 and .408 casings.

The parent case for the .375 CHEYTAC is the .408 CHEYTAC. The .375 seems to be more popular in US. And the .408 is more popular rest-of-world. The .408 was created as a military round, and many of the casings we make are sold to military units. For that reason, we adopted the metric designation. The metric equivalent for .375 is 9.5 x 77. The metric conversion for .408 is 10.36 x 77. Because not everyone knows the caliber by its metric designation our headstamp normally includes both the imperial and metric designation.

Peterson came out with the calibers in 2016. Since that time we have never been out of stock, and we run it as often as necessary so we never are out of stock. It seems this constant availability has led to a resurgence of the caliber. More and more guns are now being chambered in it.

Continuous availability of good brass could be one reason for CheyTac® growing in popularity. Another reason could be the fact that it is a fantastic Extreme Long Range (ELR) caliber. Nailing targets at a mile is a “chip shot” for a CheyTac®. In point of fact, Peterson Cartridge .375 CHEYTAC brass was used in the 2017 win of the King Of 2 Mile competition, where the winner rang targets at two miles distance.

Douilles Perterson calibre 408 Cheytac

Prior to Peterson Cartridge making .408 CHEYTAC casings there was only one manufacturer making that brass available in the US.

As you may know, the larger the caliber the harder it is to make consistent, high-quality casings. The .408 CHEYTAC, which we headstamp 10.36 x 77, was no exception. Our tooling development team spent 17 long months and over 1,000 man-hours, and produced 49 different iterations of dies and stems before landing on the best combination to make a casing we believe to be superior to the other casings commonly used in CheyTac® chambered guns.

The goal we set for ourselves was to produce .408 CHEYTAC (10.36 x 77) with hardness values throughout the head and sidewalls that would hold up after more firings than any of our competitors. Our ballistician has repeatedly gotten as many as 15 reloads from our CheyTac® casings without sticking, neck splits or head separation. We believe these to be the most precise, consistent and robust CheyTac® casings on the market.

Douilles Perterson calibre 6.5 Creedmoor

Par 50 pièces

Puits d'amorce "large rifle"

Normally, on our product description pages we give the backstory behind why we came out with the caliber, or what makes our casings different from the other ones out there. With the 6.5 Creedmoor, instead of us telling you about our brass we thought you might rather hear from our customers.

“A year ago I switched to Peterson 6.5 Creedmoor brass. I’ve won more competitions in the last year than I did in the three prior years put together.”

“I took a chance on using your brass and all I can say is WOW! Your 6.5 Creedmoor brass is top shelf – much better quality and finish.”

“My 6.5 Creedmoor with (the other leading brand of) brass was a 1 m.o.a. gun at 200 yards. With Peterson brass it is a ¼ m.o.a. gun at 200 yards.”

“Yesterday at the range. MRAD, 6.5 Creedmoor, 5-shot groups, 100 yards:
(Leading brand) first shot = .89”
(Leading brand) once fired = .72”
Peterson right out of the box = .44”
Really impressive.”

“Just wanted to thank you guys for your excellent brass and customer service. It is so nice to have someone making a product that performs time after time like it is supposed to, and at a price that is affordable.”

“If brass was sexy, this stuff would be HOT!”

Puits d'amorce SRP (Small Rifle Primers)

The 6.5 Creedmoor SRP (Small Rifle Primer) Cartridge is manufactured on Peterson Cartridge’s new, state-of-the-art case line which uses cutting-edge technology to produce some of the most precise and consistent casings on the market. Peterson Cartridge Co is committed to producing Match-Grade Brass that enables our customers to get more reloads per casing than industry average.

Additional Information

If you plan to load above SAAMI max pressure and are concerned about primer-pocket leak, Peterson recommends you try their 6.5 Creedmoor Small Rifle Primer. While they do not suggest loading over SAAMI max pressures, Peterson's small primer pocket 6.5 Creedmoor have proven to hold up over SAAMI max pressures when tested in their universal receiver.

Warning: Only use Peterson Cartridge Co. casings in firearms in good condition, designed, marked, and chambered for this cartridge. Do not use Peterson Cartridge Co casings for “fire forming” or any other purpose other than what they were designed and tested for. Peterson retains no responsibility for the enclosed casings if they are used outside of the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Many competitive shooters prefer Small Rifle Primer pockets (SRP) because they experience longer primer pocket life due to the increased material in the head of the case. There is also a belief that Small Rifle Primers produce a more consistent ignition. Some people even report better groupings and lower velocity spreads.

However, SRP are not recommended for shooting in extreme cold or hot temperatures. And Small Rifle Primer Brass sometimes requires the firing pin on your gun to be bushed. This depends on your rifle and your bolt. If that is not done, you risk getting pierced primers. For more information on bushing your firing please watch this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CDJKLp7BsI.

To make sure you don’t have any problems talk to your gunsmith and understand what your rifle is set up for before using SRP brass. Doing that will make sure your reloading and shooting experience is much more enjoyable.

Douilles Perterson calibre 338 Lapua Mag

Par 50 pièces

The .338 Lapua Magnum Brass Cartridge is manufactured on Peterson Cartridge’s new, state-of-the-art case line which uses cutting-edge technology to produce some of the most precise and consistent casings on the market. Peterson Cartridge Co is committed to producing Match-Grade Brass that enables our customers to get more reloads per casing than industry average.

History

When Peterson Cartridge decided to come out with its own .338 Lapua Mag casing we perceived that there was not a source of really good, match-grade, sniper quality .338 Lapua that was made in the US. We decided that if we were going to produce .338s, we wanted ours to be as good as or better than the best foreign-made .338 L M.

So we spent more than a year studying the casings of the best foreign manufacturers. We ran scores of tests on annealing temperatures to get the grain structure just right. SAAMI, the standards organization for our industry, specs outside dimensions of casings but there are no specs on internal dimensions. So we cut casings in half and studied the internal geometry of the best, to uncover their secrets, and where possible, improve on them. In our lab we have an electronic machine that measures the force required to insert a projectile into the case mouth – what we call neck tension. This enabled us to ensure that our casings were optimal for bullet release. The end result is what we believe to be the most accurate shooting .338 Lapua Mag casings on the market.

We’re not the only ones to think these are exceptionally good casings. We sell a ton of our .338 LMs to international sniper units. And we know of at least one hostage situation in the US that was resolved with a round using Peterson .338 LM brass. So if you would like to use the case used by military sniper units and police SWAT teams, you need look no further than Peterson Cartridge.

What we hear from our customers a lot is, “You make it easy to buy Peterson. It is as good as the best! It’s less expensive! And it’s made in the US!”

Douilles Perterson calibre 300 Norma Mag

Par 50 pièces

Peterson Cartridge Co. of Pittsburgh, PA today announced the addition of .300 Norma Magnum to its growing family of rifle casing calibers.

When Peterson Cartridge set out to produce .300 Norma Magnum casings (which it recently introduced) it also added .338 Norma Magnum to the Tooling Development schedule. The .338s are now available, and initial test results are excellent.

According to Derek Peterson, president of Peterson Cartridge, “Our development goal for both of the Norma Magnum calibers was to produce casings that outperform the competitor’s product … and we did it. We make our Norma Magnums with a harder head. Our casings tolerate higher pressure. And you’ll get more reloads from Peterson casings.”

When Peterson produces a casing in a new caliber for the first time, it performs an extensive list of Quality Assurance tests and trials before making it available for sale. One of those trials involves the following:

  • Load 5 cases at certain percent above Max pressure and fire each five times.
  • Take 3 of those casings, increase the pressure, and fire each, five more times.
  • Take one of those casings, increase the pressure again, and fire that casing 10 more times.

After running this protocol on the new .300 Norma Magnums Peterson’s ballistician reported the following:

  • Standard Deviation on muzzle velocity was single digit.
  • There was no detectable heavy-bolt-lift, sticking in the rifle, primer gas leaks, blown primers, cracked necks or bodies, or case-head-separation signs throughout testing.
  • Primer pocket removal force showed only very minor reduction due to pockets opening up.

After firing the last case 20 times, at above recommended powder levels, the case appeared the same as it did after the third firing. The ballistician concluded, “These cases were found to be strong, durable, well-made cases that should satisfy the most discriminating shooter.”

Douilles Perterson calibre 33 XC

Par 50 pièces

The .33 XC is a new caliber designed for Extreme Long Range shooting.  The .33 XC has the same head and tube base diameter as a .338 Lapua magnum, but with less taper in the body. It has a steeper shoulder angle. It’s longer than a .338 LM and holds quite a bit more powder. It is even taller than a CheyTac.

The concept of the .33 XC was developed by David Tubb, a long-time dominant force in the long-distance, competitive shooting community. He is also the designer of the 6 XC caliber. Tubb turned his attention to Extreme Long Range shooting, and the ELR community. He designed the .33 XC for shooters who have the gear to load and shoot .338 Lapua, who want to reach out farther. With a chamber reamer from Tubb a .338 Lapua Mag owner can have their gun rechambered for the .33 XC and turn it into an ELR gun.

Peterson Cartridge is a US rifle casing manufacturer with a strong reputation in ELR circles. Peterson brass is used in winning the King-of-2-Mile competitions – first in 2017 and also at the first KO2M France. Peterson brass was used in the win of the Nightforce Challenge. Peterson brass figures prominently in ELR Central competitions. Many shooters attempting new world-record, long-distance shots use Peterson casings.

Because of this, Tubb contacted Derek Peterson president and head caliber developer at Peterson Cartridge to design the tool pack to make the new .33 XC. Peterson has successfully developed about two dozen different caliber tool packs across the last few years but the 33 XC was one of the largest. The casings, loaded ammo, chamber reamers and rifles chambered in .33 XC are now available through David’s company Superior Shooting Systems.

The .33 XC is a high velocity, flat shooting caliber that allows shooters a new option for getting into ELR As evidence of its efficacy, David Tubb set a new ELR Cold Bore world record on December 2nd 2018 with the .33 XC, attested to by FCSA – 2,200 yards.

Douilles Perterson calibre 6.5-284 Norma

Par 50 pièces

Puits d'amorce "large rifle"

Introduced by Norma in 1999, the 6.5-284 Norma is a standardized version of a concept that gunsmiths and wildcat fans have been doing for years.  The story began in 1963, when Winchester introduced a new rebated head cartridge that combined the case head of a .30-06 sized cartridge with the fatter body of a belted magnum, resulting in a short action powerhouse known as the .284 Winchester.  Soon thereafter wildcatters began to use it as a blank canvas to create several new cartridges over the next few decades.  It wasn’t until 1999 when Norma submitted a 6.5 mm version with a 35-degree shoulder and an overall case length of 2.170” that the 6.5-284 became readily available.  It quickly became a favorite among long-range shooters due to a combination of case capacity, accuracy, and comparatively low recoil.

“We decided to develop the tooling to produce the 6.5-284 Norma based on the success and popularity of that cartridge in the 600 and 1,000-yard Benchrest and F Class communities” Peterson Cartridge president Derek Peterson said.  “We want to provide our customers more options in our lineup of long-range cartridges and the 6.5-284 is a logical choice for those who want to launch high B.C. 6.5mm bullets at speeds in excess of 2,900 fps.”

Douilles Perterson calibre 6 XC

Par 50 pièces

Puits d'amorce "large rifle"

David Tubb, owner of Superior Shooting Systems originally conceived and designed the caliber 6 XC. Tubb has won almost 30 different rifle championships and has proved to the world that the 6 XC is a highly effective, flat shooting caliber.

More than a year ago Tubb contacted Peterson Cartridge and asked if the team at Peterson could develop a tool pack to make 6 XCs. After months of tooling development and experimentation Peterson produced its first run. According to Derek Peterson the company’s president and head tooling designer, “Lots of shooters purchased these 6 XCs, shot them and complimented them highly.”

But Tubb reached out to Peterson to say he wasn’t happy with them. He wanted more internal volume. So Peterson went back to work and redesigned the tool pack. After more months of tooling revisions and experimentation Peterson produced its second iteration of 6 XCs.

David shot those second-iteration casings and reported to Derek, “Ok, you achieved the original goals I asked for, and these are every bit as good as those made by the European incumbent. But here’s the thing. Their casings are known to have soft heads that don’t hold up well to numerous reloads. Can you make a third iteration that has harder heads? Oh … and can you make a version in small rifle primer size also?”

So Derek went back to work and produced a third version that closely matches the internal volume of the European cases but with much harder heads. After shooting these, David declared them to be the best 6 XCs out there. This is the version Peterson produces today, in both large and small rifle primer size.

Peterson concluded, “Give them a try, and see if you agree.”
